Rheinmetall will equip the Dutch armoured reconnaissance vehicles Fennek with a new targeting device. The new Lafette-Adaptable Targeting Device 400 will replace the previously used thermal imaging device and significantly increase the reconnaissance and combat capabilities of the Dutch armoured reconnaissance vehicles. A corresponding order for 246 devices was recently placed with Rheinmetall Electronics through the Fennek prime contractor, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The order value is approximately 36 million euros gross. The devices will be manufactured at the Ismaning site and are expected to be delivered by 2027.
The retrofitting of the Lafette-Adaptable Targeting Device 400 (LaZ400) is part of the Fennek Midlife Upgrade program of the Dutch armed forces. The Dutch armed forces will use the LaZ400 on the vehicle-mounted Lafette 1530 and replace the thermal imaging device currently used as a sensor system.
The LaZ400 is a proven system, also used in the German armed forces on the Remote Controlled Weapon Station FLW200. A color day sight sensor, a thermal imaging night vision sensor, and a laser rangefinder enable excellent reconnaissance capabilities day and night, as well as precise combat effectiveness.
With the completed order, the number of LaZ family devices in use will increase to over 2,700 units.
