A belt and carrying system that distributes the total load across the soldier's body together with the vest and backpack is an important component of the equipment. Military belts and carrying systems must be lightweight, durable, and highly functional. Only then can users carry their equipment and adapt to different requirements. The most important requirements include strong buckles and robust straps. In addition, the system should be compatible with other equipment.
Ideally, the system should be modular and adaptable. SAVOTTA has taken on this challenge and implemented the most important requirements and features for belt and carrying systems in its products. Here we present the belt system consisting of the VALJAS Utility Belt, the VALJAS Combat Belt, the VALJAS Slim Belt Pad, and the VALJAS 3-Piece Belt Pad in detail. The VALJAS EX-Harness and the VALJAS H-Harness carrying systems will follow in the next review.
The webbing is made of 100% polyester, while the Multicam color variant is made of 100% polyamide. The main material composition is 500D Cordura, which is made of 100% polyamide. D-rings from ITW Nexus made of Delrin are used. Delrin is a high-quality polymer that absorbs shock and is highly resistant to extreme temperatures.
The belts have a 2M-FDR buckle made of PA6 plastic. Polyamide 6 plastic is shock-absorbing, impact-resistant, abrasion-resistant, wear-resistant, weldable and bondable, friction-resistant, and slippery. The material is also suitable for low temperatures.
The SAVOTTA VALJAS Combat Belt was developed for military applications and offers both practicality and durability. The combat belt consists of three webbing straps that form loops. The three-layer construction ensures support and durability. There is no Velcro fastener on the inside for inner belts on the pants.
The middle layer is particularly thick and stiff. This ensures sufficient support for carrying holsters and other equipment.
The belt layers are sewn together to form loops or channels. These are compatible with PALS fasteners for securing pockets. The number of PALS loops varies depending on the length of the VALJAS Combat Belt . Size S–M: 18 PALS channels, adjustable from 76 to 111 cm, 245 g. Size M–L: 22 PALS channels, adjustable from 92 to 127 cm, 285 g. Size L–XL: 26 PALS channels, adjustable from 108 to 142 cm, 325 g.
The adjustable webbing ends are equipped with a one-wrap Velcro fastener. This allows them to be rolled up and secured.
Despite its robust structure, the belt remains flexible, which increases wearing comfort.
The VALJAS Combat Belt is adjustable with a buckle and features a 2M-FDR-SR buckle made of high-quality PA6 plastic. It can be replaced with a COBRA buckle at any time.
In addition, an approx. 40 cm long elastic cord is included for various fastening purposes. This bungee cord can also be used to repair some items of equipment. So don't throw it away, reuse it.
The VALJAS Combat Belt is wide enough to accommodate holsters and hold them securely in place.
The simple and lightweight SAVOTTA VALJA Utility Belt is versatile and adjustable and equipped with a PALS belt system. It is suitable for carrying light loads and, in combination with a belt pad and/or harness, also for heavier equipment.
The belt consists of two layers of fabric that form PALS-compatible channels for attaching pouches. It has no stiffening layers and is made of standard fabric.
Size S-L: 20 PALS channels, adjustment range 84–144 cm, 170 g. Size L-2XL: 24 PALS channels, adjustment range 100–160 cm, 185 g.
The VALJAS Utility Belt is adjusted with a buckle without Velcro fasteners. The buckle is a plastic buckle from 2M, which can be replaced with a Cobra buckle on request.
The ends of the adjustment straps are equipped with One-Wrap Velcro fasteners so that they can be rolled up and secured.
In addition, the belt comes with an approx. 40 cm long elastic cord that can be used to make flexible fastening loops for the belt.
The belt padding has been designed for comfort and support. The set includes three components for the back, sides, and individual fit.
The 280 x 120 x 10 mm pads can be placed as needed, and the back pad can also be omitted. It is suitable for use with the VALJAS H Belt and the VALJAS EX Belt.
Compatibility extends to most thick and rigid belts with a width of 45–50 mm. The Pad Set is compatible with the VALJAS Utility Belt and VALJAS Combat Belt.
The rubberized friction fabric prevents the belt from slipping.
The PALS webbing on the bottom edge of each pad allows the user to tie the belts and pads together with pouches. This creates a very stable package. For optimal effect, we recommend using a belt with PALS channels, such as the VALJAS Utility Belt and VALJAS Combat. This creates a seamless PALS attachment surface that also bridges any gaps between the pads. Above all, it connects the pads and the belt, preventing the pads from slipping on the belt. This design offers a firmer hold than a conventional “sleeve-style” belt pad, as the pockets are attached directly to the belt, preventing sagging and wobbling.
D-rings are used to attach the VALJAS H-belt or the VALJAS EX-belt carrying system.
The VALJAS Slim Belt Pad from SAVOTTA is a simple and practical pad for the belt.
The VALJAS Slim Belt Pad is available in sizes S–M (70 cm, 140 g) and M–L (80 cm, 160 g) and L–XL (95 cm, 190 g).
This belt pad, which is available as an accessory, uses two layers of 4 mm thick closed-cell foam. This provides comfort when carrying light loads. The side facing the body is made of a rubberized friction fabric. This prevents the belt from slipping or twisting.
The flat belt loops are 60 mm wide and made of 25 mm wide webbing.
As they are spaced 25 mm apart, they can be used for horizontal attachment of PALS-compatible pouches.
There are various options for attaching equipment to the pad set. It was found that both the VALJAS Utility Belt and the VALJAS Combat Belt fit through the belt loops.
It was also found that the PALS channels can be used in different ways. The spaces between the loops can also be used to attach the VALJAS H-belt or the VALJAS EX-belt carrying system.
For the padding to work optimally, a distance of 15 to 30 cm should be maintained between the tips at the front.
SAVOTTA has equipped its VALJAS system with the most important requirements and features of a belt system: modularity, adaptability, robustness, water resistance, quick drying, compatibility, comfort, ergonomics, and lightweight design. It is particularly noteworthy that the belts and belt pads can be easily combined with each other. What appears stiff at first glance proves to be extremely well thought-out, adaptable, modular, and robust upon closer inspection. This ensures a very high level of comfort and stability during use.
