This text discusses the experience of participants in the Pistol Course 2 offered by Tactical Combat Academy. The course aims to enhance shooting skills, with a focus on safety, magazine changes, target switching, and tactical reloading. Instruction is bilingual and feedback is provided to improve skills. Participants observed significant improvements in their shooting abilities by the end of the course. The emphasis is on tactical, defensive shooting rather than Olympic target shooting. The text concludes by highlighting the sequential nature of the courses at TCA and encourages participants to start with Pistol 1 before progressing.
After successfully completing the Basic Pistol Course 1 (Here our report), we were eager for more and wanted to further improve our "shooting" skills. So off to the Pistol Course 2. The goal of this course is to build on the knowledge and skills from Course 1 and expand on them. Find out what you can expect from it with us:
First, the familiar is repeated and practiced. The "Safety Drill", on which great emphasis is placed, is the focus here. At the end of each exercise, everyone has to perform this drill independently to ensure safety. But don't worry, the instructors are very attentive.
What comes as a new skill is the forced magazine change, so: shoot everything and how do I reload quickly and safely. It is emphasized that one must keep moving and not stand like a rigid tree. Tip from practice: whoever stands still is an easier target for the other side.
After a few more exercises, the tactical magazine change is introduced. I decide when to reload. This is done, for example, after the firefight when there are no more threats. The idea is to always have a full magazine on the weapon. The participant is taught the proper technique for gripping and how to reload each magazine. Several exercises are quickly shot for this as well. Of course, forced magazine changes are also included in the last exercises. By the way, the instruction is bilingual: the excellent and experienced instructor teaches in Slovak, while the lady on the right translates to German. This works quickly and very well.
Lastly, during Pistol Course 2, target switching is introduced, first standing still and then with a few steps of movement. Of course, after each switch and terrain check, a tactical magazine change should be performed. If the magazine runs out in the middle, reloading quickly as learned at the beginning of the course is also necessary. The learned skills are constantly practiced and reinforced.
Here is a short video from TCA so you can get an idea of moving images. Once again, the high skills and knowledge of Gabriel and his instructors are immediately noticeable in this course. Each participant receives feedback on their skills and possible suggestions for improvement. Safety and weapon handling are always closely monitored and highly valued.
At the end of the second course - after about 200 shots - a significant increase in knowledge was observed in each participant. In this course, the movement sequences are much more complex and the stress level is also significantly higher, as can be clearly seen in our target image (the target was renewed in between).
The trigger error is still slightly present... The focus of these courses is not on Olympic target shooting, but on tactical, defensive shooting. To reiterate from the first article: the courses at TCA build on each other and none can be skipped. So each participant must start with Pistol 1 and then work their way up through all levels!
We are already looking forward to the further courses for the pistol.
