Behördentage 2025:

Antidrone ammunition from RWS

RWS has developed the URBAN DRONE DEFENCE (UDD), a 7.62x51 mm cartridge featuring a specialized plastic projectile. This ammunition, available in LIGHT and HEAVY variants, is designed for drone defense with minimized danger zones, suitable for both densely populated urban areas and open rural spaces.

RWS manufactures ammunition, including very specialized types. Their latest ammunition is called URBAN DRONE DEFENCE (UDD), seen at Behördentage 2025. At its core, it's a 7.62x51 mm cartridge with a special plastic projectile. In conjunction with a minigun, it can effectively bring down drones, with a significantly reduced danger zone compared to conventional ammunition.

There are two variants of this special ammunition, LIGHT and HEAVY.

  • UDD LIGHT (with blue-dyed polymer projectile, 1.0g / 15 gr), particularly suitable for shorter distances of up to 100m in densely populated urban areas, UDD
  • HEAVY (with grey/brown-dyed polymer projectile, ≤ 3.0g / 46 gr), particularly suitable for medium distances of up to 300m for defending open areas, e.g., in suburban or rural areas.
