REVIEW: TMC Gen3 Tiger Stripe

01/28/2021By Redaktion

Big myth for little money, the TMC Gen3 in Tiger Stripes. When Crye Precision recently offered their 3rd Generation Combat Pants in the Tiger Stripe camouflage pattern in a limited edition, they were sold out immediately.

Shortly after, the pants and shirts were found on various platforms for easily double the selling price or even more. Here, quite a bit more... Well, that's what true collectors spend their money on.

But it doesn't always have to be Crye Precision if you want to adorn yourself with camouflage patterns beyond the usual ones. And if you want a pair of pants that shouldn't just lie in a safe, but should be taken out into the field and worn. TMC has of course noticed the hype and thus brought out their own version of the pants. The TMC Gen3 Original Cutting Combat Trouser in Tiger Stripe.

The pants: Under the Velcro closure in the front is a YKK zipper hidden.

As the name suggests, these are cut like the Crye Precision Gen 3 and naturally have the same pocket arrangement and features as the original pants, here the front thigh pockets.

Just like the original, you can adjust the height of the knee pads inside the front pocket using a bungee cord.

The large cargo pockets on the sides of the thighs also offer plenty of space.

Of course, there is a large elastic band inside to secure a magazine or even a water bottle.

The knife or flashlight pocket, which extends into the cargo pocket, is also present.

The knee pads can be tightened at the back of the knees using Velcro.

This ensures that the knee pads fit optimally and well. The stretch material on the TMC pants is greenish, while on Crye it is black, so the two can also be easily distinguished at first glance.

However, one small drawback that is often observed with pants from China is that the knee pad seems to come out of place when the knee is bent sharply.

This is clearly due to the materials used. The knee pads from TMC are somewhat stiffer.

The front is not rubber like in the original, but rather plastic with some flexibility. Personally, I prefer to use the original Crye knee pads, as they are more comfortable to wear.

Going a bit further down, you will of course find the classic small pocket at the end of the pants leg again.

If you want, you can tighten the bottom as well. Velcro rules!

This is what the back of the piece looks like.

If you want to use a belt, you have to be careful.

Because a five centimeter wide belt no longer fits through the loops at the back - top TMC Gen3 Tiger Stripe, bottom Crye Precision Gen 3 Multicam. Unfortunately, it's quite a shame, because the belt loops at the back of the TMC pants are probably just under 4.8 centimeters. So if you don't have a completely stiff belt, you can also force it through with gentle force.

Also noticeable at the back of the pants: the stretch fabric is green and not black. It's okay, but kind of a pity. Black would have blended better with the black elements of the tiger stripes...

However, the positive thing here is that the stretch fabric used is better than expected. It stretches better than with other Chinese manufacturers, and in all four directions.

Thanks to the many stretch panels like above the buttocks, the knee, and in the crotch, a slav squat is no problem. Comfort guaranteed.

Yes, this is Multicam, as the photo comes from an original Crye Gen3 bag. Here you can see an opening in the middle-bottom of the bag. Crye has this in all bags to allow water to drain off.

In the TMC version, this feature is unfortunately missing in all bags. However, the pants handle water a bit better since the fabric used probably contains a bit more polyester. You can tell by touching it, and when the pants get wet, they dry faster than others.

By the absence of the hole, it's clear that some corners were cut. How else could a price of 59.99 euros for the pants come about? That's the actual cost, by the way.

Some quality was also compromised in the seams. The seam finishing is not always perfect, some seams are not completely straight or stick out. However, the overall construction is still good. Especially when considering the price-to-performance ratio, we are extremely impressed.

On the side. The fit can be described as True-to-Size and fits very well. With other manufacturers, 32/30 is worn, but here we chose the 32 S (for short) and are more than satisfied.

CONCLUSION: A lot of pants for little money. The quality of TMC is actually convincing, at least for private use when you want to play in the woods or at the range. There are some weaknesses in the seams and the materials used, but this doesn't affect the overall feel or comfort. Plus, you get a lot of style. Tiger stripe rulez!
